Stuck and Need Towing Help? Find Tips Here

When your car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, it can be a frightening and frustrating experience. If you don't have anyone to call when you need help, it can frustrate you even more. A few months ago, my truck quit on the way to work. Since I work and live in a rural area, finding someone to give me a lift to the city isn't always easy. Luckily, my employer sent a tow truck driver to help me out. The driver towed my car to a shop in town to get it repaired. The driver also offered a few tips on how to stay safe in a rural area. If you need advice or information about towing, read my blog. I show you how to keep cool under tough situations and what to do when you need towing help. Thanks for visiting.

Essential Supplies To Carry In Your Vehicle This Winter Season

Kylie Torres

Now that winter will soon be here, it is time to start thinking about getting your car prepared for safe winter travel. Though it is always important to change the vehicle's fluids and rotate the tires before a big trip, it is even more important that you stock your car with the necessary supplies to survive a breakdown in a rural area or getting trapped in a winter storm. Since tow truck companies can be overwhelmed during a storm, you need to be properly prepared to keep your family safe and comfortable in your vehicle for many hours if necessary.

Take some time this week to ensure that all of your vehicles have the following mechanical, safety, and comfort supplies:

Necessary Mechanical Supplies

Every vehicle that you own or drive should have the basic supplies necessary to handle minor mechanical problems, such as a flat tire or a dead battery. Check to make sure that your cars all have the following in their trunks:

  • a jack
  • an inflated spare tire
  • a can of tire sealant foam
  • jumper cables
  • extra oil, antifreeze, and windshield washing fluid

If you do not have any automotive repair experience, then you should purchase a basic repair manual for your car. Place the repair manual in your trunk so that you can refer to it if you break down in an area without any cell phone service.

Necessary Safety Supplies

Having your car break down on the side of a busy highway or being trapped on the road in a storm are very dangerous situations. In order to stay as safe as possible, your vehicles should all carry the following safety supplies and every driver in your home should know how to use them:

  • emergency flares
  • a fire extinguisher
  • a flashlight and extra batteries
  • matches

In addition, you should also carry a brightly colored rain poncho. You can wear the poncho if you need to work on your vehicle and it will help other drivers to be better able to see you.

Necessary Comfort Supplies

Finally, while it is never fun to be stuck waiting in your car for a tow truck or a clearing storm, there are many things that you can carry in your trunk to make the stay in your vehicle much more comfortable. Some items to consider are:

  • blankets
  • hand warmers
  • food
  • water
  • juice

In addition, you should also pack something fun to do, such as a deck of playing cards or some other sort of small game that the entire family enjoys.
