Stuck and Need Towing Help? Find Tips Here

When your car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, it can be a frightening and frustrating experience. If you don't have anyone to call when you need help, it can frustrate you even more. A few months ago, my truck quit on the way to work. Since I work and live in a rural area, finding someone to give me a lift to the city isn't always easy. Luckily, my employer sent a tow truck driver to help me out. The driver towed my car to a shop in town to get it repaired. The driver also offered a few tips on how to stay safe in a rural area. If you need advice or information about towing, read my blog. I show you how to keep cool under tough situations and what to do when you need towing help. Thanks for visiting.

Dog Locked You Out Of Your Car While The Engine Is Running? Here's What To Do!

Kylie Torres

As many dog owners can attest, dogs enjoy going on car rides. The dogs get to explore new sounds and smells, and it gives them a sense of adventure. However, if their owners aren't careful when stopping at a convenience store while leaving the car running for the air conditioning or heater, the adventure may not be a good one if their dog hits the power lock on the armrest of the door. With the keys in the ignition and the doors locked, panic can quickly set it. If you find yourself in this situation, instead of panicking, remain calm and do the following.

Call Roadside Assistance or a Towing Service

While you may have heard of tricks and ways to get into a locked vehicle, it's a good idea to call a roadside assistance or towing service instead. The reason for this is that you could end up damaging the window or the power lock mechanism, which could lead to the inability to secure your vehicle until you are able to have the vehicle serviced if you damage something. Plus, using the tricks to get into a locked vehicle could take as much time as it would take for you to wait for roadside assistance to arrive. Instead of attempting this as a DIY project, call for help from a service that has the ability and knowledge to safely and effectively unlock car doors.

Monitor Your Pet

While you wait for help to arrive, it's important that you monitor your pet and try to keep it entertained and focused on you so it doesn't cause further destruction. This is particularly true if your dog can shift the vehicle out of park while the engine is running. If your vehicle has a backseat, try to get your dog to relocate to it rather than sitting in the front of the vehicle. This will also be helpful for when the service is there unlocking your car because then your dog won't be in the way.

Be Ready to Break A Window

If an emergency comes up while you wait, such as if your dog does accidentally shift the car out of park or it becomes dangerously hot inside the vehicle, you may need to quickly break a window. It's important to be prepared to do this just in case. Look for a heavy, blunt object that you can hit one of the windows with and keep it in your hands while you wait. That way, you can take action at a moment's notice.
